Kilts
This week in the wedding guide I asked for a little bit of help from the quietest member of the team and my lovely husband Allan. The topic we are looking at this week is the groom and more specifically, kilts!
Owing to the fact that I am not only a girl, but also one born the wrong side of the border, I thought that the best person to ask about how to wear this complex national dress was my hubby, like all men, he looks lovely in a kilt!
The first thing to think about is what tartan you’ll be wearing and where are you getting it from. Most men do usually hire it since it’s more economical, especially when it comes to kitting out all of the groomsmen. In addition to checking that your kilt hire offers your preferred tartan, it’s also worth checking the length of hire available; if you are getting married on a Saturday it can be very stressful if your hire needs to be returned by 9am on Sunday morning.
One top tip that we both agree on is to double check everything when you pick it up, especially that you have the correct sizes. The staff will usually attach items such as a plaid onto your jacket, but double check beforehand. If you have any questions, these are definitely the best people to ask!
I’m not going to get into too much detail about what goes where as it can vary, but a good piece of advice is to take a photo of everything when you first try it on, do make sure that you ask first. Some shops can also supply you with a how to guide, but just in case there are some links below covering the trickiest items.

Another item that sometimes causes confusion is the Sgian Dhu which is worn in the top of the kilt hose (socks) on your dominant side
If it isn’t already attached, the kilt pin goes through the top most layer of your kilt only (it’s intended to weigh the kilt down, not attach the layers together)
