Our wedding

Our Wedding!

This week I’ve been reminiscing about my own wedding, 9 years ago I married a wonderful man, he’s kind, a fabulous cook, brilliant dad to our daughter and even though he winds me up constantly, I wouldn’t change him.

While I think it might be a little bit early to dispense marriage advice (come back to us in 59 years!) I’d like to think that because of my job, I do know a few things about weddings.

so nine years on, what things were really important?

Friends and family

This is always a hot topic at any wedding, and I can completely relate when I bride is getting stressed over numbers or RSVPs!

There are quite a number of people in our wedding pictures who are sadly no longer with us and it makes me so thankful that they could be there and we have those lovely memories and pictures of them dressed to the nines and having a wonderful time.

The Cake

Regular followers of this blog will know just how much I love cake! We were incredibly fortunate that my beautiful gran made our wedding cake, and it was amazing, she has since passed away but I still have the gorgeous decorations she made, she was able to preserve the top tier of our cake for us to use for our daughters christening 12 months later. It’s not something many people do these days and it does need to be a fruit cake, but it was a lovely way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and our new arrival all in one.

The build-up and the excitement

This is something I love sharing with my couples, there is an excitement and anticipation when it comes to weddings that’s not like anything else. The countdown, ticking through the to-do list, ordering flowers, dress shopping, hen and stag parties they were just as much a part of the wedding as the big day itself.

The photographs!

This is something I really try to remember in my job, my favourite pictures from our wedding are not the posed ones (although they are lovely and they definitely help you get pictures of shy guests) the ones where people are laughing or crying or just busting out some fabulous moves on the dance floor are by far the ones I treasure the most.

Even the shots where my mascara has smudged or my dress isn’t quite sitting right are all in our album because they tell the story of that cold, damp day in March when we became husband and wife.

So would we do it again?

Without a doubt! I don’t think we’d change anything, not even the weather!
